I realize I missed blogging in January entirely, but I had an extremely busy month. I thought I'd share what I've been up to for the last few weeks. Every January I spend three crazy weeks working for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on top of working my regular job. I am by no means a cowgirl, but I do love me some rodeo. I am, after all, from Texas, and you know we all ride horses to work here ♥.

You may remember my elf from the Holiday Makeover post, well today I found him a reindeer buddy.

I really wanted my wreath hung on our stone fireplace, but it just wouldn't stay on that rough surface, so I found a spot for it on the wall.

I love the Christmas card my mom sent us.

I found this amazing skiing Santa today for 25 cents. He now hangs above my Christmas card display.

I had already made up my mind to yarn all my gifts this year and today I found all this vintage yarn for 75 cents.

Cute vintage ornaments I got for a dollar today. Yes I love estate sales!

I'm still deciding where to hang this gem. I definitely love retro Christmas decor better than modern stuff. ♥

Mini DIY Christmas Card Display

Wes and I sent out our Christmas cards today, so I thought I'd share with you how I display my cards.

Supplies I used. (I had all of these in the house.)

Pieces of yarn
Pieces of rick rack
Novelty yarn
Clothes Pins

Cut strands to desired length and knot on end. (Mines about 5 ft.)

Push pin strands to wall. I hung mine vertically, but it's also cute horizontally perhaps across your mantle. Clothes pin cards to strands.

This can me modified a million different ways. Mine's super simple, I'm sure you can jazz it up!

Home: Holiday Makeover

I've just about got the house completely decorated for Christmas. The only thing I lack is my new wreath for the fireplace. I'm at a loss on how to hang a wreath on stone. I have no mantle and I can't nail into it. If you guys have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. This year I added many new decorations to my collection including my amazing white tree. We now have a lot more room for a full size tree so I decided to discard my sad green 3 footer. This tree is definitely more me. Last night I finished the front door wreath, sprucing it up with some new ornaments. (I hot glued myself in the process). I'm in love with the results, though. What do ya'll think?

Fun With Yarn

The last 2 weeks I've spent my nights preparing our store for the holidays. This year most of our props are created from yarn. In the 6 years I've been there, these are by far the most creative and fun decorations we've done. I've really enjoyed it and have been brainstorming fun yarn projects I can do at home. These are great for those of you that don't know how to crochet or knit (like me).

I love these gorgeous packages.

I definitely plan on making an "H".

I'm replacing my ugly Christmas wreath this year with a handmade one. This lovely wreath is at the top of my list.

Here's some wearable yarn that doesn't require knitting.

I've always wanted to try this project. So simple.

Hopefully I'll find some free time this winter to craft some of these.♥

DIY Autumn Fabric Wreath

This week I really got the crafting bug and started searching for some fun Autumn projects online. I found a simple DIY wreath over at A Beautiful Mess and decided to try it out today.

Materials:

wire hanger

about 7 fabric quarters in varying patterns/colors

packing tape

scissors

Bend wire hanger into a circle and tape the ends together with packing tape until sturdy. Cut fabric into 7 inch strips. Tie strips into simple knots around wire frame alternating patterns. Make sure to push strips tightly together and not to leave any holes. Once your frame in full, cut a final 12 inch strip and tie at the top for a hanger.

I absolutely love the end result. I might do another one for Christmas with reds and greens.

Halloween Plans

As you can see we're getting excited about Halloween over here. Yesterday I pulled out the Halloween decor and today I bought Martha Stewart's Halloween issue to get some crafting and baking ideas. Candace will be back in Texas later this week and I hope to go to the pumpkin patch to pick out some pumpkins. Hmm...what shall I be for Halloween?

I've had rotten luck in my thrift adventures since moving to Dallas, but today I hit the jackpot. At the first store I hit, I found this lovely Snoopy art, a cute wooden hippo, matching orange and mustard bowls, and a new vintage pair of boots. I got all of this for $16!

This Snoopy is my favorite item of the day. A little known fact about me (until now, only known by my family and friends that have known me since middle school) is my love for Peanuts. For about 10 years I collected all things Snoopy and friends. I still have some of this collection boxed up at my mom's house and a few favorites at my house. This ones definitely going on the wall.

The second store I snagged up 2 vintage skirts. I'm so glad my luck is changing here in Dallas. I can't wait until Miss Candace comes in October so we can share our thrifting adventures!

I finally pulled out my sewing machine after a long dry spell and worked on some vintage reconstructions. I am also finally looking into getting a much much nicer camera. It's pretty silly when my iPhone takes better pictures than my real camera.♥

Today Wes and I finally tried Wild About Harry's, a fun restaurant in our neighborhood.

They have a ton of options, but I ordered a chili cheese dog. Yum! Wes actually tried two different dogs including a Chihuahua dog with guacamole, tomatoes, onions, salsa, & cheese.

This giant hot dog is my favorite part. Next time Tara and Matt are here I'm taking them to try it. (We didn't actually eat there when they visited, just stopped for a photo opp.)

Last weekend we celebrated the 4th Annual Dia De Los Toadies Music Festival down in New Braunsfels, TX. Friday and Saturday we spent in the 100 degree weather at the festival, but Sunday, we were able to cool off and let loose floating the river.

Wes spent all weekend working hard, so by Sunday, he was ready to party!

Besides a gorgeous day and amazing friends, I also found my new favorite drink: Summer Beer! I hate the taste of beer, but this is quite delicious. I wish I had found out about this earlier in the summer. I hope you enjoy it too!

Summer Beer

(2 gallons)

1 bottle vodka

12 cans of beer

3 cans of frozen pink lemonade concentrate

DIY Jewelry Frame

A couple weeks ago, I shared with you the new bulletin board i found on a thrifting trip. I actually already had a plain bulletin board, so wanted to find a new use for it, so I made this lovely jewelry frame to house my necklaces. I got the idea after seeing Candace's jewelry frame made from similar materials.

Materials:

framed bulletin board
vintage floral sheet
flat tacks
push pins
paint (optional)

Remove frame from bulletin board. Paint if desired (I did). Cut vintage sheet down to size and fold around the edges of board, securing with flat tacks on the back. Reattach frame to board securing with wood glue if necessary. Add push pins and hang jewelry. Easy! I love mine so much. No more tangled necklaces!

Today, everything is starting to feel normal again. I finally have my Internet back after 3 weeks without it! I can now get back to blogging and working on Peppermint Vintage daily. I have a ton of updates coming to Peppermint Vintage in the next week that I have to get working on, but today I'm taking it easy. I did some thrifting this afternoon and found some cute items. That's Felix above scratching my new bulletin board I found for 99 cents! I better get it up on the wall before she ruins it.

I also found this pretty teal handbag today. I have been searching for a new bag for a while now and I finally found one the right size and color. ♥

I love this tiny pair I found at an estate sale a few weeks ago. They're about 5x5 inches with a tree, bunnies, and deer inside.

New Place

Hooray! We are finally all moved into the new place. Unfortunately, we are still without Internet until the 8th due to an address mix up. I am blogging via free wi-fi today so I could share a few of my favorite things about the new place and neighborhood. Above is my amazing stone fireplace. Some might think it's a little tacky or dated, but it was one of the main selling points for me. I haven't decided where to hang my velvet kitty yet so currently it's propped on on the fireplace. As soon as the Internet is up and running and I have decided where to put everything, I will post a home tour.

Our friends Matt and Tara came by on Sunday and we strolled the neighborhood. This giant hot dog is right down the road!

This dreamy turquoise house is unfortunately not mine, but it's right across the street from us. Once it's not 110 degrees outside, I'd like to take some pictures in front of it. So pretty.

I found this one a while back at Goodwill, but I've been waiting to hang it in the new place. We move in 4 days, and I can't wait to decorate a new space!

Isn't this creepy? It's a Kleenex box cover! Candace and I saw this yesterday at a new thrift store in town and she insisted I get it! I don't know why I needed this, but I did.

Thanks everyone for making my birthday awesome! Even though I didn't really plan anything or throw a party this year, I had a fun weekend. I had Mexican food from my favorite place. I got this cake at work. I went to see Bridesmaids for the second time. So funny. And I saw almost all of my friends at Wes' show yesterday. More celebrations tomorrow for the 4th of July!

Yesterday, Wes and I hit up a vintage pop-up shop that is in Dallas just for the weekend. I wasn't really expecting much and assumed everything would just be in piles that I'd have to sift through. I was excited to find that the little shop was actually sorted and merchandised nicely. It was packed full of amazing things and I was told they had so much stuff that they would be adding new stuff each day. I might just have to stop in again before the weekend is over.

I bought this lovely velvet cat. I could tell everyone in the shop was jealous that I snagged it before they could. ♥

Today was my day off so I hit up an estate sale and some thrift stores in the neighborhood. No luck at the estate sale, the house was filled with mostly southwestern decor. Yuck! I did find a couple of lovely things at Goodwill, however. I love this cross stitch butterfly handbag! The butterfly flap actually zips off so you can carry the handbag plain with just cream leather showing.

I also found this this plaid button down. I always buy this style of shirt when I see one. They are so cute and comfortable. Have you guys found anything good lately?

Well, I couldn't resist. I hopped on the blog train with everyone else and played the ABC game so you guys could get to know me better! Enjoy♥

A. Age: 27...until June 30th

B. Bed size: Double. Wes' dream is to have a king size bed. I sleep crooked and let's face it, 2 people and 2 cats just don't fit comfortably in that space.

C. Chore that you hate: Laundry. Probably because I don't currently have a washer and dryer in my house so it's just a pain lugging it back and forth. I actually don't mind all other chores.

D. Dogs: No dogs. We're cat people. Maybe one day when we have a yard. Dogs just aren't practical in an apartment when you're not home very much.

E. Essential start to your day: Putting in my contacts and washing my face.

F. Favorite color: Green

G. Gold or Silver: Silver

H. Height: 5'4". I would love to be just a little taller. I find myself just shy of reaching a lot of things. Ha ha!

I. Instruments you play: I never seriously tried to learn how to play anything. Wes is the musician in our household.

J. Job title: Merchandiser.

As you may have guessed, estate sales are one of my favorite past times. Today I went to an estate sale for a lovely family friend, Melissa Mia Hall. She was an artist and writer so you can imagine what kind of unique items she has in her home. I bought this art piece made from a vintage paper doll and fortunes. Many of her pieces were made from paper dolls, fortunes, and other found objects. I love it!

Look at this adorable giant ice cream cone I found at Texas Thrift over the weekend! I think it's supposed to be a cookie jar, but I'm going to use it for storage in my craft room. Earth Day is celebrated every Spring to remind us to be kind to our planet. Here are 3 easy ways to "go green" without sacrificing style.

One of the best ways be eco-friendly is to wear vintage. Do your bit to help the earth by discouraging the production of more throw-away fashion. Not only is vintage more unique and better made than modern clothing, but it is usually cheaper than what you will find at the mall.

Another great way to cut down on waste is to buy furniture and home decor from thrift stores. I bought this nightstand and lamp secondhand. This nightstand was originally black and a bit beat up, but I gave it a fresh coat of paint and it fits beautifully now!

Finally, use eco-friendly beauty products. Priti polishes have been completely formulated without any Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phathalate, Toluene, and Camphor. They are also cruelty free and 100% Vegan. Priti also manufactures a completely biodegradable soy nail polish remover.

Wes and I made a trip out to Dallas on Monday to sell some old clothes at Buffalo Exchange, so we stopped in at one of my favorite vintage stores, Lula B's. They have all kinds of awesome and crazy things. Here are some highlights.

Wes in giant ski gloves. I insisted we take pictures with these on.

These would look perfect in my fruit theme kitchen, but I resisted buying them.

A trunk full of naked Ken dolls. Hmmm.

A must see when heading to Austin is Style Station, an old gas station converted into a vintage shop. It's basically out in the middle of nowhere, so keep an eye out for it on I35, a little outside of Waco. Owners, Rebecca and Art have been collecting since the 80s, so this little shack is packed with amazing finds.

Here's an example of one of the many distractions I encounter working from home. Today I was packaging Peppermint Vintage orders and I turned around for two seconds and my box was occupied.

Minnie sat in this box a good 30 minutes and hissed at Felix for getting near her. These kitties pretty much run the place, so I found something else to do until she was over it.

A Crafty Friend
